Our conversation extends to Soudal Quick-Step’s Tour preparation, including altitude training and the Grand Tour team composition, with emphasis on Mikael Landa's pivotal role as a super domestique.

Looking ahead to the 2024 Tour de France and the Olympics, Remco discusses the tight schedule between the two events, emphasizing the importance of a carefully planned race calendar, especially given the proximity of the time trial and road race at the Olympics to the end of the Tour, and the dream to leave Paris with two medals.

We take a closer look at key Tour stages, particularly the crucial mountain and gravel stages and discuss their potential impact on the overall race dynamics.

Remco shares insights into his season preparations, training routines, and the difference in training plan when targeting a Monument vs. preparing for a grand tour. The importance of balancing a hard training schedule with rest and recovery.

His season goal extends to the Road World Championships in Zürich, aiming for a potential double win in both the individual time trial and road race disciplines, achieving a historic clean sweep, becoming the first rider in history to claim both gold medals in the same season.

Remco shares his experiences with creating a YouTube channel and having a film crew following along to capture a more transparent and personal side beyond what viewers witness during races, and he unveil future topics for the upcoming episodes.

Moreover, Remco talks about his new project of the R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy, an initiative aimed to bring more spotlight onto cycling in Belgium's capital, and nurturing young talents from underprivileged backgrounds, teaching them cycling skills, and potentially grooming them into professional athletes with the ultimate dream to have a young Brussels resident be selected for the national team for the 2030 World Cycling Championships.

Lastly, what the word 'WolfPack' means to him, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie, support, and teamwork among riders and team members.

REMCO’S 2024 RACE SCHEDULE

Kicking off the 2024 season in Portugal at the Figueira Champions Classic on February 10, Remco gears up for the race, following it with a return to the Volta ao Algarve where he's previously claimed the overall victory in 2020 and 2022.
Of course, Evenepoel’s 2024 goals will lie beyond the early season warm-up races in Portugal, beginning with his debut at Paris-Nice and gradually build towards defending his back-to-back titles at Liège–Bastogne–Liège, incorporating strategic race choices to optimize his performance across various events.

From May, in the build-up to the Tour and Olympics, he'll be away from home to alternate altitude training with few races, so for LBL, he wants to spend as much time as possible at his Spanish base in Calpe, close to his family, and won't do any altitude training before.

July will be the most important month of the season as he goes up against “the gods of Grand Tour racing” at the Tour de France with the goal of finishing in top five on the GC, a stage victory to complete the beautiful trilogy of a stage win in each Grand Tour, and then aims for gold at the Olympics and the road World Championships in Paris and Zürich later in the year.

With two gold medals at the Worlds, and only the second rider in history to have won in his career the prestigious rainbow jersey in both races, road and ITT, he’s aiming to make a historic clean sweep and be the first rider in history to take both gold medals in the same season.

Celebrating the year that was, with excitement for the New Year. New commutes, adventures and races right around the next corner.
