THE AMERICAN DREAM
Castelli has always represented the finest in Italian quality and the most innovative performance-enhancing cycling clothing. With roots that trace back to 1876, Castelli has a long history of innovation and cycling-industry firsts, including the first Lycra short used in professional racing, the first sublimation printed shorts and jerseys, the skinsuit, the first windproof membranes, the first anatomic seat pad, and other garments such as the iconic Gabba that revolutionized foul-weather cycling apparel.

Wade Wallace from CyclingTips recently interviewed Steve Smith, the American who turned Castelli around into what we know it as today, for the "From the Top" podcast, which features people in the cycling industry who are pursuing their life's passion through their work.

Steve shares the inspiring story of how he ended up at Castelli and his passion for creating the most innovative clothing for cyclists seeking maximum performance while paying close attention to pro cyclists’ recommendations, needs, and ideas. You probably remember the first controversy of the 2017 Tour de France stage 1, when a couple of teams argued that the aero dimple-covered panels on the Team Sky skinsuit broke the UCI’s rule. After the time trial (won by Geraint Thomas), the UCI looked into the matter and ruled that the suit was legal.
