One of the Best

90kg 189cm - XXL was perfect. Easily as good as a well known Swiss brand and marginally better that a well known British brand. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. The pad is smaller than the other 2 brands in terms of width, but as thick as the Swiss option. Very comfortable. Reviews elsewhere mention the shoulder straps are narrow and tend to bunch up at the shoulder. This does happen, but is a non issue really Submitted on  04 May 2021  by  Dan

Ride longer, more comfortably... and look good too

Hands down the best bibs I've owned, and they keep getting better. Castelli has been my go-to brand for cycling gear for the last decade - light, comfortable, great materials and tech - and these bibs are the best yet. If you need new bibs, buy these. You'll love them. Submitted on  28 April 2021  by  J. Wiegand

Nothing better, in my opinion.

I have three of these in my closet because I want to wear this short for every ride. Worth every penny. Honestly have nothing bad to say at all. These are perfection. Submitted on  11 April 2021  by  zackery beall

Just Right

These are my goldilocks shorts, everything about them is just right. The Large fits be perfectly (I'm 6' / 156 lbs). The pad is incredibly comfortable. The material breathes beautifully and moves with me nicely. When I ordered them I was worried that the leg gripper would be distracting, but its the opposite, the gripper seamlessly locks the shorts in place so they (almost) feel like I'm wearing nothing at all. I got the blue shorts and the color is a super classy muted blue which stands out from the sea of black shorts while still be understated. I prefer let my pedals do the talking instead of my kit. Best Bibs I've ever worn

These are by far the most comfortable bibs I have ever worn! They were great from mile 1 and have been fantastic 1,000 miles later. The leg grippers stay in place like nothing I've worn before and the chamois is excellent. Cannot recommend these enough. Submitted on  11 February 2021  by  Alessandro Puglielli

Best bib shorts ever

I had tried many different bib shorts from many manufacturers until I tried Castelli’s Free Aero Race. Version 4 is better than ever and is sublime to wear for short or long rides. I’m big guy at 6’5” & 240 lbs and wear an XXL in all of my clothing but need to size up to 3XL for Castelli bibs. For a tall rider, the bib straps fit well and the legs are plenty long. A+ to Castelli! Submitted on  29 December 2020  by  KenB

great bib but fraying thread

I like the fit and comfort, and after using it for 5-6 hours over two rides I noticed the thread area above my crotch starting to fray because of friction against my jersey when I get into aero position/ride low. Quite disappointed Submitted on  30 November 2020  by  Keat

Worth it

I'm new to cycling so I had a hard time believing there was that much difference between off-brands and a name like Castelli. I finally took the plunge thanks to a Strava discount. Consider me a believer. These are by far the most comfortable, well-made and good-looking bibs I own. I'm 6'1“ 165 lbs. and got a large. I maybe could have gone XL but I think the leg cuffs would have been too loose. Submitted on  24 November 2020  by  Sean

They don’t last.

I purchased three pairs of these shorts over the last two years. I love them when I first got them. They were fantastic for about 15 to 20 rides. Then, they stretch out so much, particularly around the lower leg that it’s annoying. I love this brand and I may try another one of their shorts. But, I can’t see spending $200 on a pair of shorts every three months. Submitted on  17 November 2020  by  Roger Hurni

they are ok...

The good bits: The bibs are brilliant. The front of the shorts are brilliant. The aero material is lovely. The material over the pad (between you an the pad) really works in wicking the sweat. The OK bits: The pad takes a while to bed in. It is ticker at the back than the front. For anyone with a flat saddle that could really increase comfort. For those with a saddle pointing down it is less of a benefit. That said, my free aero shorts are my choice for turbo training as the extra padding is so comfortable on the turbo. The bad bits: The leg gripper. It is useless. The silicone is dashed so that it can stretch more, but that means that it does not grip as well. The solid red silicone strips used in the Competizione shorts are far more effective. Sizing - the Castelli sizing is right, but it seems to be a max size not a average size. I am 178cm tall, 68kgs-70kgs, 31 inch waist and wear a medium. A small is too short in the bibs. Overall a good pair of shorts, but the gripper is just wrong. It is a shame that the Castelli video of these shorts shows the gripper of the Competizione shorts not the gripper used on the Free Aero 4 shorts that I have. My favourite short

Pricey pants but well worth the price. nice design. Normally wear size L but for castelli clothing I need XXL. if it needs to be replaced I already know which pants it will be. This one!. Submitted on  19 October 2020  by  Eric

I wanted to take the time to write a review to shed some light on sizing. As others have suggested (here and in other forums), it's best to order at least a size larger than normal. It's always hard when ordering online, and I was going back and forth between ordering an L or XL. I am 6'1" (185 cm), ~170 lbs., with a 33.5" (85 cm) inseam. My typical t-shirt size is M and pants are usually a 30" waist. I ordered an XL and I'm glad that I did. The XL is snug, so the L would have been too small for sure. These seem very well made (in line with Castelli's reputation) and ready for a long day in the saddle. The leg is a bit long, reaching just above the knee, so if you like a short, short leg, you should perhaps consider something else. Overall, I would certainly buy this product again. Worth every penny! Epitome of comfort!

Got these yesterday and rode 20 miles in them today. They run a size small so order up one size. I wear a large in other brands (5' 11" / 190 lbs) and the XL is perfect. The Progretto chamois pad is sublime... no chafing, no soreness, no unwanted repositioning... I felt as fresh after 20 miles and I did when I started. My only complaint (and it's a small one) is I wish the shoulder straps were wider. The straps are fine, and I never thought about them while riding, but a wider strap would be more comfortable for longer rides. I will be ordering another set soon. Best bibshorts period

I've owned several versions of this short and they have all been fantastic. They are my go to for summer riding and I will continue to buy them as long as Castelli makes them. Submitted on  03 January 2020  by  Dan M.

Unrivaled Quality

This is by far the best bib short I have ever had the pleasure to wear. I had previously used Pactimo, but often had issues with the grippers slipping. I have had ZERO issues with the Free Aero Race 4 Bibshort slipping down my leg. The pad is incredibly high quality with multiple layers for different pressure points on your body. The seams are well done; and the aero dimples make me feel fast. I am a Castelli fan for life now! Submitted on  03 June 2019  by  Travis

Excellent cuissard

L'ajustement est parfait et le maintien musculaire également. La peau Progetto est très confortable et ne provoque aucune irritation. Un sans faute. Submitted on  02 June 2019  by  Guillaume

Great Improvement

This is one product, if I'm being completely honest, wasn't one I was particularly excited about. The former version of the short was great, so while I was interested in how it could be improved upon, it wasn't something I believed would provide an answer to a question I wasn't asking. Long story short, the improvements to these shorts are huge - from improved straps, a better gripper, and the most comfortable seat pad of any I've ever tried - and I would highly recommend to anyone in the market for premium bibshorts.
