Product Questions

What type of fabric technology does Castelli use?

Castelli has been at the forefront of essentially every breakthrough in cycling clothing since we made wool shorts obsolete. We use the most advanced fabric technologies available. Visit our fabric technology page for more information.

How many different types of seat pads are there in the Castelli line?

There are only two types of seat pads in the entire Castelli collection of bibshorts and tights, and both of these seat pads are the result of years of ongoing testing and refinement. These two seat pads, the KISS Air and the Progetto X2 Air, come in both men’s and women’s-specific versions and will allow you to maintain 100% performance while riding in absolute comfort.

1. Progetto X2 Air seat pad
In 2009, Castelli went on a quest (together with the former pro-cycling team Cervélo TestTeam) to make the most comfortable and breathable seat pad. Many prototypes later, and after almost two years of testing, the first Progetto X2 seat pad was introduced to the market.

The Progetto X2 Air seat pad is different from most multidensity seat pads. Instead of a bunch of raised ridges settling against your skin, the skin-side surface of the seat pad is one smooth ventilated skin-care layer to keep you cool.

The multidensity cushion of the seat pad is on the other side of the foam – and is created by cutting away sections of a single block of uncompressed foam to create variable densities. The multidensity Progetto X2 Air seat pad features three gel inserts – two under the ischial (“sit”) bones and one in the perineum area. They’re called a “viscous comfort zone” and are so thin that you can’t tell they’re even there. Whether you are out on a two-hour weekday ride or training on the cobbles for Roubaix, the Progetto X2 Air seat pad will give you maximum protection in this highly sensitive area.

2. KISS Air seat pad
The KISS Air seat pad aims to incorporate many of the features and as much comfort as our top-of-the-line Progetto X2 Air seat pad but at a more affordable price. The KISS Air is stretchy and has numerous ventilation channels, while the variable thickness keeps the bulk down and the comfort high.

Is there a difference between a men’s and women’s seat pad?

There’s a big difference between men’s and women’s seat pads. A women’s seat pad is slightly wider than a men’s seat pad – due to women’s wider sit bones – and a men’s seat pad is longer to ensure modesty-protecting coverage at the front.

Does Castelli use a special seat pad for triathlon suits and shorts?

The Castelli KISS TRI pad is a completely different from the KISS Air and Proggetto X2 Air seat pads. The revolutionary KISS TRI seat pad has minimal padding and shape, with multidensity foam for an optimized aero-bar position on the bike, and practically disappears during the swim and run.

How do I know my correct size in Castelli products?

Choosing the correct size is essential to ensure that you receive the maximum benefits. At Castelli, we obsessively test and refine to give you the best-fitting, highest-performance cycling apparel.

Castelli jerseys and jackets are designed with the sleeves articulated forward for maximum aerodynamic performance. On the bike, your Castelli jersey should fit close to the skin. Off the bike, the jersey might feel tight across the chest and a little short in front.

Castelli shorts and tights should fit tightly enough to support critical leg muscles through compression without inhibiting movement and constricting blood flow.

For more information and a size chart, please refer to the size chart on castelli-cycling.com.

I found a website that is claiming to sell original Castelli products for a very low price. Are they real?

If the price seems too good to be true it probably is! Not all fakes sell at lower prices than their genuine counterparts, but an unreal bargain is one of the surest signs of an un-real product. Ask yourself how someone can sell, for example, a brand new EUR 249.95 Castelli Windstopper® jacket for EUR 60 –– chances are it's because it's a fake.

Therefore, we recommend that you purchase through your local or online Castelli retailer to ensure the best service possible.

Castelli does not warranty purchases made through eBay or consumer resale sites, or counterfeit products

Who does Castelli sponsor?

Castelli is proud to support cyclists at all levels of the sport and across a wide variety of disciplines. Take a look at the Athletes section on this site for more information.

How can I apply for sponsorship?

There are two ways to become a Castelli-supported athlete. The first is through the pro cycling teams we support. These teams have their own recruitment process for athletes, and Castelli is not involved in this process.

The second way is through our regional and local ambassador program, which is managed by our distributors and retailers. This allows local and regional teams to join forces with their local Castelli dealers, who are the most knowledgeable about the local race scene and are able to best serve the sponsored athletes. This program is 100% run through our distributor and dealer network, with final approval from Castelli headquarters.

Please contact your local retailer or the Castelli distributor in your country with any sponsorship requests.

How did Castelli start, and where did the name come from?

The story of Castelli begins with a small tailoring shop in Milan, founded in 1876 by Vittore Gianni. The company took a definitive turn toward cycling in 1935, when one Armando Castelli joined the staff.

In 1939, Armando Castelli purchased the company from Vittore Gianni, and he soon began to supply cycling legends such Coppi, Bartali, Bobet, Van Looy and Anquetil. Along the way, he expanded that effort into supplying clothing to a handful of professional teams.

With the birth of Armando’s son, Maurizio, Castelli as we know it today was about to take shape. The youngster grew up in cycling, and it was only logical that he would end up in the business; however, the extent of his passion and desire for innovation would soon cause a parting of ways with his father and the founding of the Castelli brand in 1974. The innovations began to roll out with regularity soon after.

Visit our Company History page for more information.

Can we customize our race team kits using the same products the pros use?

Castelli is dedicated to making the fastest clothing in the world. We know that race results come through relentless attention to the smallest of details, so we approach every garment questioning how we can make it faster. And you can have the exact same pieces as the professional cycling teams and triathletes.
